Back in the Fight!
By Jeff Keaton
Most Christian schools and homeschools are back in full swing as of today. Many started several weeks ago. I love the start of a new school year because there is so much hope and promise as we see students rolling in the doors of our classrooms, and everyone is starting out with a totally clean slate. This super positive atmosphere quickly fades as we get down to the business of shaping the worldview and character of so many different types of children with so many unique needs and abilities. Educating children is hard work, but oh, how rewarding it is in the years to come!
As I was thinking about the thousands of Christian educators and parents who are fighting this battle, I came across some words from Louie Giglio that reminded me of the battle we are in. He said, “If you love God, expect headwinds; If you want to make Jesus famous, expect massive resistance; And if you want to advance the gospel of Jesus Christ at all costs, expect a hurricane of hell’s fury!” When we get serious about teaching children God’s truth and how it applies to all of life, we can expect a hurricane of hell’s fury. But, the Apostle Paul puts everything back in perspective when he writes these words in Romans 8:31: “What then shall we say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?”
Today, I want to remind you that God is mightier than anything the Devil can bring against you. I’m not writing from a pie-in-the-sky perspective. I have felt hell’s fury, and God has defended me in every instance and in the worst of times. Hopefully, you are still at the super excited stage this school year, but we all know the dog days are coming. When they come, don’t ever forget the meaning of what you are doing, and don’t ever forget that if God is for you, you’ve got what it takes to accomplish the calling He has given you.
